Zearing, Iowa 50278. In north east Story county. Population 700, 1 mile long by 1/2 mile wide. Established in 1881, was named after an Illinois judge (Joseph Zearing), who donated a church bell to the Methodist church if they named the town after him. Part of the Colo-NESCO school district, home of the Royals. Are just slightly north and east of the geographical center of the state of Iowa. We have our Zearing Days festival the last weekend of July every year. Give or take a few miles, we are withing 25 miles of 3 large cities (ames to the west, marshaltown to the east, and iowa falls to the north), and are roughly 45 miles north of Des Moines, which is our state capitol.
