That depends on "doesn't work" meaning. Is it not hot If it is cool your heater may have failed (electrical may have broken heating element or popped breaker or gas may have failed burner). If no water comes out there may be a shut-off valve or your pipe may be clogged or there may be an accumulation of rust in the bottom of the heater.

If the water coming out of the hot side is cold check your water heater breakers or pilot light. If there is no water coming out at all someone must have shut off the valve.

It means that The heating coil in your geyser is not working. This can happen from excess calcium deposits on the coil . You need to change the coil.If you have a boiler for hot water then check your boiler and hot water circulating pump.
