Absolutely, I lived in Sri Lanka for a year working in a poverty area and the day before I left the Tsunami hit.
The things I saw during my year anyway were enough to change me for the better but the Tsunami emphasized it all so much more.
My theory is now:
IF there is a situation/argument etc which in a week/month/year/etc you will have forgotton about or it wont make your life better then why waste time worrying or stressing over a pointless issue.....
IF however it will improve yours/someones else life etc then theses are the tihings we need to spend time concerning ourselves with.
I tell you what....it dont half make you a load of free time and de-clog your thoughts!!
Thanks for a GREAT question!

Went through a Short Disaster of a Marriage to an Abusive, Violent Sociopath.
It was HORRIBLE .. but in order to walk away with MY LIFE and the LIVES of my children .. I HAD to LEAVE EVERYTHING Behind that I EARNED and Had up to that point in time (and yes, it was substantial).
The Divorce was grueling .. the abuse continued, he'd continue to torment me down through the years (and it has been almost 2 decades since the divorce ...) He has stolen my identity, he has robbed my home/office/car, he stole my vehicle, he damaged my property, he continued to abuse me in various ways, he was convicted of abuse (when the children when on a FORCED Visitation by a stupid California Judge who thought it was "Funny" to let an abuser have unmonitored visitation) ... and ...
the latest? Well .. he once AGAIN Burglarized MY HOME (August 2006) with an Adult Child's Willing help (one whom has the same sociopathic traits .. and who has other diagnosed mental health issues) .. causing tens of thousands of dollars of damage and stealing what I PROVIDED through just MY Earnings for the household (because that ex NEVER complied with the divorce decree).
Changed me for sure .. Can NOT Trust ... Can't be safe ... Have to ALWAYS be on the Edge (MUST always follow my Safety Plans -- use Alarms all the time -- car, home, on me) ... So hard to Let others into my LIFE (and that is for sure.
So ... I would say it definitely made it worse for me ... and the ONLY Reason I survive is because I WORK Hard and Pay my Bills (and yes, the only reason I did NOT die or be injured seriously that day is because I was out PAYING MY BILLS -- what a blessing bills are for sure).

Yeah, I think my divorce was a mistake...now I'm married to someone else, live 1200 miles away from my family, have no life or friends and sit on my fat *** and watch TV if Im not at work.
I would say that one turned out for the worse.
But, my wife totalled her $40,000 car and we get her a $4000 car instead. It's paid off, and with the money that was going for the new car per month, we are living in a brand new house.
That turned out for the better.
