Lots of methane is produced in rice paddies and other wet lands. Methane is as bad as carbon dioxide.

No way can all the cows and cattle related animals in the world now or in the past compete with human use of fossil fuels being released into the air.
Cattle turn currently growing grasses into methane. Humans turn fossil fuels into air pollution. Those fossil fuels are the product of 100s of millions of years of plants consuming carbon dioxide, releasing the oxygen (the dioxide part) and storing the carbon part, first in the plant's body, then buried deeply in the earth and turned into coal and oil by pressure of the weight of ever more plant material on top.
What took the plants all that time to bury is being released into the atmosphere by human activity in about 500 years.
I don't quite think it is right to blame global warming on cows. Even if it is a nice try at letting humans off the hook.

Ya,
cows release methane when they fart, burp/moo and poop.
due to the bacteria in their rumen.
Methane can also come from the natural decompositon of organic material in fields and swamps,
vents in the earth and by-product from refineries.
Whatever the source, methane, although less abundant in the atmosphere than CO2.
However methane molecules are a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.
Ya, our government wants to blame cows instead of industry!
Cows can not reach into their wallets and write the politicians a check for their election campaigns.
Maybe if the cows had opposable thumbs?
On a similar notes.
Cities ban smoking at bus stops,
but the busses themselves put out much more.
Why do certain counties still allow control burning of the fields for clearing and fire prevention.
Makes the whole county smell and hazy.
While its citizens still have to have their cars smog checked every two years.
This ticks me off!

Why are you a vegetarian I asked him.
He said not only because meat is bad for you but the raising of cattle is bad for the planet what with cow flatulence in the Ozone and the clearing of plains for the raising of cattle.

Yes, I grew up on a farm and I always knew cows were tools of the devil. (Horses are worse though -- they step on you and bite and stuff.)
