Physically, I think making love and sex are the same thing. One could argue, however, that making love is more emotionally driven (i.e. with someone you love, as opposed to driven by lust). It can be a little painful the first time, but I don't think that would be true for every woman. We are all different down there, in regards to the hymen, and a lot would depend on how aroused you are in terms of lubrication, relaxation, etc.

If a girl is a virgin it will proabably be painful the first time she has sex as there is a membrane (thin skin) which partially covers the vagina that will get torn. With some girls this skin gets broken earlier with athletic activity so it is not a hard and fast rule.
The only difference between having sex and making love is the feeling and care that is put into it. The movements are exactly the same but the feeling and love and care for each other and taking time to ensure each other are pleased makes making love much more satisfying.

Well I can see that most people that answered this question are men using female characters so lets answer your question correctly. We women respond to intimacy more on an emotional level. Fact, if a woman is deeply aroused and deep into the moment she will naturally and excuse the term, self lubricate. The higher her arousal the more wetness she will endure. This helps minimise pain and at times no pain if her Hymen was already lost to alternative means such as Gymnastics.
As for making love and sex. That is more of an opinion per person. In my view yes it is wo different things because sexual contact without commitments is in fact sex. How can you make love to a person you may not see again or was is a 3 AM partner? You cant becuase they like you are not looking for partnership, just the occasional romp in the bedroom.
Making love to me is personal sexual contact with a person I am emotionally attached to. There is no 3AM partner its you and her and thats all the person you need. Making love can also at times make you try alternative forms of sex to please your partner i.e. Oral/Anal Sex or Roleplay.
Again it all comes down to interpretation. But I will implore you to make her deeply aroused as she can be before heterosexual intercourse occurs. Her first time should be very erotic not a ok let me do this becuase I love this person. Her first time is a deep emotional moment for her and it will change her. Especially if she is religous and is doing so thinking you are the ONE.
Remember the more she is turned on by you the more pleasure she will have during her first time. Our sexual prowress is defined by our mental state at that very moment. We dont respond to visual as much as men. SO I stress learn more about what makes her excited and go from there.

Yes it can be. Depending on the state of hymen of your vagina. If it has already broken, may be due to lot of physical exercises, jumping, running etc. If it is broken then you will not have any pain but only joy IF you both indulge in Foreplay, which would lubricate your vagina naturally. If you both are in a hurry then use KY Jelly for penis application or other body oil.
BUT IF YOUR HYMEN IS INTACT, then you are definitely going to scream as the penis enters your vagina. EVEN If he goes in slowly, it will hurt. Use some lubricants as mentioned above and have foreplay and avoid the sex in a violent manner as it would not only bleed you but it will also injure you. BUT DO NOT WORRY MUCH. JUST TAKE PRECAUTIONS AS IT WILL HAVE TO HAPPEN SOME DAY/NIGHT SOME TIME. ...

Normally it is painful for the girl. Not always though. Using KY will help.
The difference between making love and having sex is how you both feel. If you are making love to someone you are showing him/her that you love them through sex.
Just having sex is emotionless, no feelings involved.

"making love" and "sex" are just two different ways to refer to the same thing, though making love emphasizes that the two people have strong feelings for one another.
