It is no more true to say women are not great leaders as it is to say that men think with and are led by their hormones, especially testosterone.
Tsk, tsk! Such a sweeping generalisation.
Some of the greatest leaders around were women - only it took more effort for them to get to the top because of the misogynist views of the men who were in power. And, needless to say, those same misogynists will go to any lengths to keep women down. You should see the stuff that goes on in the Boardrooms within commerce and industry.
While we're at it, some of the greatest male leaders were also the greatest despots and tyrants. If I were male, I really wouldn't want to pursue this particular line of thought - after all, more than half the population on this planet are female. If there were more female leaders, there might not be so much violence, genocide, torture and poverty. Just look at the track record of male leaders - few have done any real good.
Right, I feel a whole lot better for getting that off my chest. I am now going to read all the answers (in anticipation of a really good laugh) and will watch, with interest, how the voting goes.

It is very less true, I think. But women are pushed away from the leadership by patriarchy. I am not a women. but i worship woman, because she is the perfectness of beauty, and having all superior qualities. Man has nothing to do in this universe except make her pregnent whenever she required it. Once Women were the best leaders of the society. The study of the archives of Mohanjadro and harappa civilisation, Greak civilisation, Nile river civilisation etc..etc.. lead us to the real truth that when women powered the society, there were socialism, pease, and almost the life of mankind was fully enjoyable and entertaining.( forget abou the spellin mistakes)

False.
It is not true at all.
Women are better leaders than men . Afterall behind every successful man there is a woman. [Behind an unsuccessful man there are two. This is the different side of the coin though .]
Women have more leadership capabilities than men . I am sure you must have even witnessed in most of the homes . Though the finance is brought by the men(in most cases), the decision regarding how to utilize it lies in the hand of a woman . If a woman was cunning, then surely her family would have got a bad name . But if she is good at heart and mis , then the family has a good name as she leads her family. So we cannot say that women are not great leaders .

Not true, i've had female seargent before who was great. Most of the leaders in the law enforement field are men, and a whole lot of them suck. Gender has nothing to do with being a leader. A good leader comes from personal character and real life experience, it is a skill that cant be taught out of book.

A great leader is dependent of the individual skills and ability of the person, not the gender, race, or religious choice. Personally, I only had one female commander while in the military, but she was by far the best leader. This is not because she was female, I think, but just because she was good at what she did and took a real interest in her soldiers. So, like I said, its about the person, not the gender.

Every year or so, a magazine or newspaper publishes a list of "The 100 Greatest Leaders" or "100 Most Influential People".
The jury is made up of leading men *and* women from society.
In all cases the published list is 99 are men.

We live in a gender segregated society- Women don't have the opportunity to become Leaders. When little boys are taught to treat little girls as equal then maybe we can develop women leaders. When sports/Olympic are not gender specific with Men's records or Women's records, then we can let individuals compete for leadership and not give a preference to one.
So to answer you question- who knows, until things change greatly we will never know.
