Well, I would be able to give you more info if you tell me what species turtle. Think of all the costs and care a turtle needs. Many people say it is easy to own a turtle, but I have spent over $600 on mine and they still need more for a good home.

'Terrapin' is not a type of turtle. It is a term that means different things to different people.

No turtle wants a cold set-up. Turtles want warmth at all times (unless you hibernate them- tricky to do!)

The other questions are best answered by knowing the species. Sizes, cares, diets, etc. range all over the place.

A basic answer for most common pet terrapins would be:
1. Good water. Aim for a big tank with water warmed to 75-80F and well-filtered.

2. Good sun. Safe, easy access basking site warmed to 90F and well lit for about 12 hours a day.

3. Good food. For most terrapins, go with 1/2 pellets and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed fish foods like worms, insects, fish, krill, etc.
