Doesn't Congress have better things to do than worry about investigating the CIA. This is all that has been in the news. I am not worried about the CIA because I am a law abiding citizen that's not a threat to the U.S. Why don't they focus on getting America energy independent, helping the troops get their money to fight the war, and most important getting China to obey the fair trade laws that will help small and large US companies. The Democrats keep talking how they are for middle class. Well, Get China to trade fairly.

The idea is to keep your attention on their ability to do nothing for the country. Again with investigating the CIA it is a ploy to ignore the real problems in the US.

It's not even a year yet, but if I had a nickel for every time I said our Congress is being run like a day care for little children, the temperature of my gas furnace would be set at 72° degrees warm, instead of 62° and freezing. First I thought our young veterans were paying for the cost of their day care services. Now I see our troops and most of America is also paying the cost.

Edit: TO: mad as hell
You definitely have the best and truthful answer here.
But Congress is already treating our troops as the terrorists, while leaving our borders at home unguarded. Our Congress is also aiding and abetting the real terrorists every time they open their mouths and demand to be our military’s strategists’. Our Congress shouldn’t be allowed to continue to try and play their war games from their offices in Washington DC, that’s not even what they where elected to do, and their lack of qualifications in this war is increasing the danger while pro-longing the war.

The current Congress and their so called LEADERS (?) is a total joke and a bad one.
Their political games are a danger to the troops, our national security and the overall welfare of the nation.
They grumble about the debt and propose more spending in the same breath.
I'll be happy to see the end of them.
The Nation needs term limits,2 terms in any office and out.

Pelosi and Reid don't seem to think so. In the last year, they have almost ignored their own very agressive agenda in favor of 68, yes, count them, 68 rejected house votes against some asspect of the war, and every one was rejected. A terrible stupid waste of time, while immigration, tyax reform, medical coverage for the poor, and much more are ignored time and again while these idiots continue to try to block funding, enforce withdrawl dates, and more obtructionist agenda.
Now we have no budget!
Not free trade, how about some FAIR trade legislation!

The CIA is part of the Department of Homeland Security, a Cabinet department. As such it is part of the Administration and subject to the same scrutiny as any other department. Bush may want to use them as secret police to do his dirty work for him but it is the responsibility of the Congress, who represent us, to check and balance what the Executive branch is doing. Since I trust Bush and his people as far as I can throw Mt. Rushmore I believe it is a good thing. If the CIA was doing everything per the Geneva Convention and International laws than there should be no problem in exposing the tapes to a select few within the Congress for evaluation. Blabbing it to the world may not be a good idea but I see nothing wrong in allowing a few representatives of the people to know what is done in their name.

Because it's an election year. Attacking the CIA makes Congress look like they care for Joe American's personal rights. It's an easy pot shot, but one that won't really do any harm and they know it. It's much harder to negotiate with the Chinese or to become energy independent.

It's called congressional oversight, and say, to turn it on you, if the CIA is following the law what do they have to be worried about anyway?

When the CIA or any other branch of government violates law and ethics they are doing it in my name, if we do not check it out, keep them in line, then it is WE who are doing it. I am not willing to wimp out, to say, oh well, not me, whatever.

It's their way of undermining the intelligence community and help the terrorists with their objectives...if the terrorists know what is expected then they can train for it..soon it will not matter if they kill hundreds or thousands..it's will be how we treat them...oh wait we already do that...poor terrorists..maybe we should give them monetary compenstion..oh wait we do that too...well so much for my answer.
I'm waiting for comgress to give immunity to some terror suspects for their testimonies to hang our protectors.

What protection aside from congressional oversight do you, a "law abiding citizen" have against any government agency over step their legal authority?
Questions like yours scare me more than the terrorists because they demonstrate a willingness by so many to shred our laws in order to obtain the illusion of safety. You're actually advocating that we let the CIA operate how ever they see fit. Anyone who knows anything about the history of that agency knows how insane that notion is.
