Unfortunately the day had to come when he would have to hang up his boots. it really is so sad to have to say goodbye to a great player that represents what Milan is. No one can replace him there isn't a player of his caliber to fill that position. Forza Maldini!!!

It's sad but understandable. He's 39 with bad knees. Maldini has played for them as long as I've been alive so it will be weird without him. I don't see anyone taking his place. Maybe one of his sons to continue the family dynasty.

I think the highlight of maldini's career was that he was nominated for w player of the year...not many defenders achieve this feat.

But then im happy coz 4m nxt year puyol will be the most experienced and respected defender in the world !!

There's one... one named Sergio Ramos.. who I don't think will be in milan :(

Our next Maldini can be his son itself.. I heard he's good...

why r u upset? he will retire in june when the CL is all over. which means he can take another shot at lifting another trophy. i want our legendary capitano to leave in june as well. he is 39. u wouldnt want a situation like old man lazio GK.

but i'm proud he will leave in june which is far away, as a european chmapion again. ambro will take his footsteps. in defence we also had costacurta, who is unexplainably incredible defender. i dont think nesta compares. there will be another italian to take their places.

edit: how hard is it for a girl to understand footballers cant play forever. they actually need to quit to or they like grandpa ballotta.
