Do you have wireless adapter?
If no, get a desktop wireless adapter or use cable to connect to your router.
Or get a wireless adapter and run the network setup software to connect. If the adapter is already installed, use network support repair to re-establish your network connection.

What error message or error code does it give you???
HOw do you know you're not connected???
Is your ethernet cable plugged in securely???
Have you cycled power on your modem & router???
Do you have a network connection established for the desktop?

O have found that a Y-Connector module helps. These are avaialble at most pc shops and cost about $12.
On other thing to think about is foot odor.

Check you desktop connection properties and match them to your laptop.
Be sure DHCP is ON (tcpip configuration)

I had the same problem but i am with sky....I remove the filter an disconnect the yellow cable and it worked

Do you have a switch on the side of your laptop saying ON/OFF. If so, switch it to on! :D
