Other good options for babies are horn worms, silk worms and phoenix worms. All have good nutritious content for beardies, but are a little more expensive.
You can get several types of roaches. A lot of people like the roaches because they are very easy to breed yourself so you don't have to keep buying them. They are also quieter and less smelly than crickets (so I've heard...I haven't tried them yet)
Whatever you do, don't feed him ANY insect you've caught in your house or yard. These insects could have possibly been exposed to pesticides, fertilizer or other chemicals harmful to your beardie.
Here's a good site to show what foods are good for your beardie:

Youngster bearded dragons mostly live on small crickets. After they become old then they may be able to have extra vegetables & veggie and not more crickets. But for it's whole life it's going to want crickets. In case you can't provide it any, then you are simply going to watch it have a slow lingering death. Take it again to the store and explain the difficulty or move it on to a pal who can take care of it as wanted. You will have to have accomplished the research and learned what it needed before buying the poor factor. There are some best websites that provide you with full important points on the care and feeding. It's going to no longer have an interest any meals for a couple of days till it get used to it can be new home. Leave it quiet and let it settle in. For the time being get a excellent ebook, or find a web site and exhibit it to your dad. He could come round (i hope so). The crickets additionally need water on a sponge, some thing else and they'll drown. Intestine food (do the research) I also perpetually have cucumber and carrot and biscuits and oats in cricket cage, then they must be dusted before giving to the dragon. If the crickets are not taken care of, then they'll now not be full of the goodness your dragon desires.

You can feed your baby dragon a FEW meal worms, but too many can cause him to become impacted and die because of their hard exoskelleton. Your best bet, if you want to give him more than just crickets, would be wax worms. You can buy them at most pet stores and anywhere that sells live fishing bait. My local Meijer sells them, and that's where I get them for my dragon. Pet stores tend to mark up the price more than a bait shop would.
You don't have to feed your dragon a variety of insects, it would do just fine on crickets, but a little variety never hurts and it will certainly keep him from getting bored.
Good luck

Stick with pin head crickets. Make sure you are dusting them with a mineral powder.
A good treat you can give him that will be easier to digest are wax worms.
They're small in size, and are very soft. If the ones you get are bigger than the space between his eyes, cut it in half.
But the best thing to feed him are crickets. I know it seems kind of boring, and you want to give him a variety of foods, but being that he is so small, there is not much that you can give him & know he'll digest it easily.
