Funny your friends villa seems rather cheap for the Algarve.
I have little doubt that your friends just trying to make money out of a sad situation, which is rather sick, as only the Hotels are questioning their security and asking parents not to leave their children alone at night in a unsafe place not the owners of Villas.
If a family really wanted a villa then they could ad their own security plus not leave their children alone at night...
If your trying to think of a way to con money out of the press or even the Mccanns themselves, your going up a blind alley as this has too many holes it....

I may have made money from your story by contacting "The Sun" newspaper who seemed interested in your story...so lets hope you did not lie and thanks for the money!!! They should be in touch very soon...

He cannot have lost money on the sale.

He valued the price he got more than he valued keeping the villa, otherwise the transaction would not have taken place.

The buyer valued the villa at more than the price he paid, otherwise the transaction would not have taken place.

It's called the free market economy. That's how it works.

If he didn't think the offer price was worth it to him, he had the option to reject the offer.

It is pretty certain that had the transaction been the other way round, and he the buyer, he would not have been at pains to add 40,000 euros to his own offer price to 'compensate' the seller with a 'fairer price'.

Somehow this statement is not entirely correct.
Perhaps half true..?
Sure your Buddy's property has been down valued.
Reasoning, Market forces. Problems in US, have had a
knock on affect to the Housing Industry, in UK, Spain,
Portugal & I suspect other European Countries.
Also, the euros strength, current exchange rates makes it less attractive , to purchase abroad at present.
It is possibly a temporary situation, due for recovery, soon.

On the other hand, sensibly, the McCanns, have indeed
not done any favours, by their actions, in Portugal.
So, some of the devaluation , could be attributed to
their bigotism & ego-tripping.
Who knows., proportionately......?

He got the market value, prices have been grossly over-hyped and reality is setting in, he will look back in a few months time and realise how lucky he was to get what he did. The market is falling and will probably crash, there is over supply, especially in Spain, although not quite so much in Portugal.

Entitled to compensation for what? And from whom? No, he should not be compensated for being foolish enough to sell at a loss. I lost money in the stock market. Who's gonna compensate *me*?

No. He is not entitled. He made the decision to sell. Obviously someone liked it after he put it on the market for sale and he accepted the offer. Doesn't matter who he sold it to - he sold it.

Probably more to do with the sub-prime disaster than anything else. The first victims of that unholy ****-up are holiday homes in continental Europe and in parts of the UK. They say prices of houses in rural France may slump as much as 40% because of British buyers tightening their belts.

Why blame the McCanns? I wouldn't want to have my child live where something as awful as this happened.
