I'm travelling to sydney this christmas and the thing is that I'm always loosing thins, especially when I go out. I'm planning on going out a few nights and I was just wondering if anyone knew if I'd be fine if i just brought my canadian drivers license with me. I don't want to bring my passport, it's too big and too expensive to replace. Are they really strict?

It depends where you go. I went out quite a few times with some friends from the US and often we had to go back to get passports before the bouncers would let us in.

Generally, the dodgier the place (Scruffy Murphy's, 3 Wise Monkeys...), the more relaxed the rules, but bouncers may still let you in at some of the 'better' places, if you're willing to take the chance.

*Technically*, according to legislation (Responsible Service of Alcohol - RSA), An Australian Driver's License, Proof of Age card, or current passport is all that is valid.

How old are you? The legal age to get in anywhere in Australia is 18. If you look older than that you probably won't be asked for ID. If your driver's licence has a photo and your date of birth you should be fine.
