It opens only a few inches and then stops. The room light attached to the power unit flashes. I believe it has something to do adjustment of the two "set screws" on the unit but can't figure out how to adjust these correctly.
I have verified that the optical beam is correctly aligned.

First,, look up and check to see if your garage door spring is broke? that could simply be the problem,,,, If it isnt, release the door from the operator and raise the door by hand, make sure the door is working properly, as in is it tight against the jambs of the frame? does it stay halfway up when it is released? if the door runs ok, then look at the operator,, find the sensativity screws on the operator, you may have to start turning them up to make sure that they are not too sensative. If that dont work, call your local garage door dealer and have them service your door and operator and get you going...

That's why they usually put a "man door" on a garage. In addition to power outages, some day, your operator is going to fail. Why risk ruining the garage door to get in then? Worst case, I suppose, is either cut an opening (that will become a window or door opening) in the wall or drill a hole in the garage door large enough to put in a hook to snag the emergency release pull.

Check if 1 of the springs broke on top>To check if binding pull the manual cord down to release the motor & see if it will lift should lift 1/2 them pull it self up>Don't let it go hold on to it>Did it work then stop????Or did you do something >If all works well> Then in the adjustment refer to the manual for model on /line for help//

When you shut the door and their is something blocking the optical beam is when the door does not lose and the light will blink thats all really i can give you!!

Youre right those screws control the amount of force to close/open door.Without a manual its trial and error.Turn em clockwise all the way.

The flickering light might mean the motor in the lift mechanism is going bad and causing lots of resistance.

Read the instructions that came with the unit and make sure your batterys in your hand held opener are ok

it could be your holding in the remote button to the opener to long. mine does the same thing if i hold the button to long so when you release the button the opener thinks you want the door to stop. try pushing the button and release it as soon as you push it and see what that does.

we had a problem with this ourselves also and we had to have it realigned by a garage door company.. it's working great now....(:
