We can hear the furnace clicking to light, you hear a whoosh, then click then whoosh, etc...after about 6 - 8 times the furnace starts.

Sounds like it is lighting but the flame sensor might be out which will then cut off the gas to make it start again. The sensor must tell the unit the flame is there or it will cut it off.

Call a tech and have them check it out... My furance is in my attached garage (insulated) I have a friend who has his furnace in a closet by his front door. He has to turn the volume up to hear it over the furnace motor.

Have your furnace looked at by a professional! Something is not right, you don't want to fool around with it.
