Have you ever used a slide rule???

I do have a slide rule -- bought it in 1964! I still have it -- keep hoping it will become a collectors' item someday -- maybe for my great-great-grandchild. I was actually a student, majoring in math, but everyone thought I must be an engineering student -- very impressive, considering the year and I was a mere "girl" -- we were supposed to be teachers or nurses. Even math was sort of different, but there were a few females. What memories -- remember having to guess an estimate as to what your answer would be? I think that was for the amount of decimal places? Gosh, I'm going to go get it out and see if I remember. I'll let you know. Also remember my first calculator -- from 1970 or so -- it was about 3" thick! And must have weighed 8 ounces or so! I remember that I paid $79 for it, which was really a lot of money back then. But, it saved me so much time -- much faster than that slide rule. Sorry, didn't mean to go on and on . . . I got a little carried away, but thanks for some fun memories.

Yes. Used to use them at work a few years ago. For some problems (i.e.polar to rectangular conversions) my slide rule can beat your calculator.

No, I did everything with pencil and paper, then the computer came along. I've got three that I picked up at rummage sales about 20 years ago but I have never tried to use them.
