Im an ex-scientologist. Took the communications and the study course. Good stuff.
They dont say you arent ALLOWED to scream. They just dont like it. Like most of scientologists stuff its not really a scientologist thing. Its just been researched back in the 1950's and slipped in with the rest. Many of the new-age birthing methods say the same thing.
Have you heard all the stuff about teaching babies in the womb? Do you think that is crazy also? Reading to them, playing Mozart music, the father talking to the womb, no loud arguments, keep the mother calm, etc. Surely if THAT has any effect then going from warm floating quiet world to cold bright screaming world has to have a bad effect.
Even psychologists and psychiatrists agree that such a thing has an impact in a newborn. Midwifes are into the quiet births. Water birthing is supposed to be great for all the right reasons. Everyone seems to be catching up on the idea.
As to the antidepressants thats also not just a scientology thing. There are many groups out there stressing that people need to know the difference between a "cure" and a "treatment". When a doctor offers you a treatment then they are saying "this wont cure you, it will just make you feel better". In some cases they might continue looking for the reason for the problem. In some they might actually say that they hope it will just go away while you are drugged up. But too often they give something that covers all the symptoms then just forget about it. Its not just Scientologists that are complaining that is an expensive cop-out.
