My furnace has been working fine for the past years, but this year it has been stopping frequently, about once every 3 or 4 hours. But then all I had to do to make it start up again was to go downstairs or the thermostat and turn the main on/off switch off and then on again. Then it works. What's the problem here, the furnace, or the thermostat? And how can I keep my furnace working full-time?

By the way, the thermostat is a "White Rodgers", and the furnace brand is LUXAIRE, model G8T08012UHA11A

Much thanks : )

It stops 3 or 4 times a day, for a long periods of time, when it hasn't reached its supposed temperature.

Agree with EJ, an oil fired furnace should not be running all the time. My oil furnace runs, then, when the room temperature equals what the thermostat is set to, it stops running.

I would say its the thermocouple, this keeps the piliot light lite. With the furnace being 12 years old no need to really clean it out, just have it replaced the part is very inexspensive, ive seen some in the $8 range unless its a left handed thread.GL

Depends on what type of furnace, oil fired or gas (propane)

If it's oil fired, then the burner needs to be cleaned and adjusted. It is probably burning too rich and soot is building up on the flame sensor, if it doesn't detect a flame, it will shut off the furnace. Or the fuel filter needs changing.

I would spend $100 or so and have it serviced.
Possible bad thermostat, or gelling in the fuel.

The furnace is not intended to run all the time.
Hope that helps some.

you need to call a service tech
i wouldn't mess around with it . what if you did something that caused it to blow up . after all it is a furnace and it is using gas i believe , ever see the news where a house blows apart because of a gas explosion be safe and call a service tech

you may want to check if the thermostat has batteries and that they are working
