Although darts are like everything else, geared to weight and feel to the user, Unicorn Tungsten darts might be a nice beginning for him. One of personal taste for me. Tungsten darts are skinner and lighter. The darts one gets with a board set are more likely brass.

Well the best darts as far as I'm concerned are tungsten shaft darts and they come in a variety of weights , so make sure you can take them back if they are either too light or too heavy for him.

If you buy a set made in England you will do well. The cheap sets are made in China and God only knows what you will get. Check out how the tails are attached to the dart are they real feathers? If they are plastic don't buy them. If you find a set with real feathers make sure the feather and wrapped with thread and sealed with a lacquer finish.

Please do not surprise him with darts. They are best if examined by the arm that throws them. If you wanyt it to be the nicer of your gifts you could look for a place that not only sells the darts but crafts them.
