Hi,
I'm not out to offend anyone with this question and I hope anyone with better knowledge than me can explain this to me.......but since the Jewish people were able to form their own country, why are the Kurdish people also not able to granted the same?

Thanks.

the Kurds (some of them) want to create their own country, even though none has existed before. This is a bad bad idea, if this were to happen they would have to divide Iraq, Iran, and Turkey. This would be like dividing America and Canada and creating a country for black people only !! The Kurds should stop trying to divide these 3 countries because it's never going to happen. But the situation with the Kurds is very different than the Palestinians because the Kurds are iraqis but the Palestinians are not israelis, the iraqi people are all different not just the Kurds so it's not fair that the Kurds should get their own country and not everyone else; there are sunnis / shia/ assyrians/ chaldeans/ kurds. They should all learn to share it because a nation the size of Iraq and with that kind of diversity cannot be divided. The situation with the Palestinians and the israelis is very different though, because the Palestinians are not citizens of the israeli state, while the Kurds are citizens of the Iraqi state.

Simply because there are not enough Kurdish people in the higher echelons of Government in the USA or UK to make it so.

For the same reasons today that Israel can commit acts of terrorism against the Palestinian People and nobody bats an eyelid.

Sorry if the answer offends but being politically correct tends to avoid confronting the truth !! Thats the way I see it!!

EDIT: Prez as an Iraqi, you should be in an ideal position to answer this question, unfortunately those same credentials are tinted with Bias! I haven't been to Iraq recently (especially following recent events) but as you know Kurds have been denied their own nationality and been told to consider themselves Iraqi and not Kurdish, the same is true in Turkey(I dont know about Iran).
Ok there is a lot of politics regarding a Kurdish state, not least of all from Turkey but as one contributor has mentioned there is - OIL !!
Setting up a Kurdish state would be messy but the Kurds have been there a long time and not forced others from the land in order to claim it (thats why Palestinians are not citizens of Israel- Cos they were there first!!)

Hey, but look how messy it got when the ill-conceived state of Israel was established??

Different circumstances. After WW2 there were hundreds of thousands of unsettled Jews, they had a great deal of sympathy, and a vast reserve of funds necessary to build a new state. They had supporters from all over the world whereas the Kurds habit a few states in the middle east. The people who habitated what is now Israel couldn't offer much resistence to the newcomers, Turkey can.

Jews have more power and wealth throughout the world and the US is their major backer. The Kurdish people have no such power and are therefore an irrelevance in the eyes of most nations. They seem to live in the marginal areas and are treated badly by the countries where they reside.

It boils down to oil. The northern part of Iraq in which the Kurds are is probably the richest area in regards to oil reserves. Thus if they had there own independent state there is fear that they would hoard the oil. In regards to Israel, the creation of which was facilitated by outside sources. (ie US and UK.) To where as the Kurds have no international support. Personally I think that Iraq should be split in three with all sharing oil revenue equally. (similar to united states of Iraq)

This matter involves concessions from different states. But there is a little group of humble modest Jews-who are also Ultra Orthodox-called Neturey Karta, who are against the idea of a Jewish state before the coming of the Messiah.

It was easier to set up Israel the British held the area and just handed it over. I cannot see Turkey Iran Iraq and syria just handing over the area that the Kurds live in.

Because some people want Iraq to remain as one. I agree, if it lessens tensions over there do it. It won't really makes the Turks happy though.
