That is a very good question, and I have to say no. Have read many books that were made into movies and none of them match up. Some have been rather good, but never as good as the book. I suppose is because of time constrictions; the books always have more detail and more side stories than the average-length movie will allow.

THE NOTEBOOK
ok... before everyone clicks away at the mere horror of my posting....
The movie and book dealt with many flashbacks and flashforwards.... its was very hard to keep up with in the book....
and in the movie you could see where you were in the moment and I will go ahead and put it out there,,,THE MOVIE ENDED MUCH BETTER THEN THE BOOK...
I would be so upset if the book was the only ending to that story!
another one...
short story 1408 by Stephen King.... great short story but the movie took it to a whole new level!

PSYCHO by ROBERT BLOCK.It was just a short story published in many popular magazines until the characters were expanded upon in the movie.
BLOCK even did a play on words with the main characters name NORMAN BATES.
What is a boy called before he is old enough to be called mister.?
It's MASTER put that together with BATES and you get the idea.
As for other movies I cant think of any that were better than the book but THE SHINING and NEEDFUL THINGS and perhaps the mini series SALEMS LOT come close.

I thought the movie of 'Chocolat' was better than the book by Joanne Harris.
Also 'Emma' (by Jane Austen) is a bit long-winded, whereas the movie is very well-done.
But mostly I think books are much better than movies!

No. When you read a book you use your own imagination. When you see the movie it is someone elses.
