I'm not sure about a black hole, but I DO have Borrowers. Once, I lost a small screw from something I needed and my mum and I searched for it. 2 days later the screw turned up in a place we had looked in.
I also had a sock monster living in the back of my tumble dryer, luckily I wear a lot of the same kind of socks so I have some spare ones now.

Yes! It happens all too often and the other day I discovered my bedroom clock had been moved forward an hour this was mysterious I hadn't touched it. I can completely relate to this sort of thing it is not uncommon around here, and it is all too weird.
Your book will soon re-appear in the most obvious place any moment now.

It's not a case of seem to ... there IS one. I've lost a library book, been weeks since it's been seen. Today is the last day in the house. The keys get handed over tonight. There is no trace of the book, it's a childrens book, luckily they don't charge for loss or damage unlike the adult ones ...

as for the sock thing i came up with a solution, about every yr i throw out all my socks and buy a 30 new pairs of socks to replace them, but the new socks are all the same so that when only 1 sock comes out i have a bunch more that match it

You got one of those too?
We got one that taketh away and bringeth back things in a different time and place.
There is no explanation other than maybe witchcraft or like you suggest, a black hole.

I don't understand the laundry thing - 2 socks in, 1 sock out!!!
Does this world have another dimension where they desperately need socks?
