I know how!
Don't listen to others, try this first. (I used to work in PC company.)
1. unplug your hard drive.
2. find another computer which one you can open the box.
3. find the cable which connect the mother board and the Hard Drive in the new computer.
4. Normally that cable has three ends, I mean three mouth. One conect to mother board, one to HD, and extra one to DVD/CD rom, unplug the DVD/CD rom one.
5. Look at the back of your broken HD, find there is a place you can put your HD to a slave drive. And put it into slave drive (The new computer's hardware will be the main one.)
6. Plug your HD on, don't forget plug the power cable, the power cable are all the same so no need to worry of the wrong one.
7. Turn one the new computer, under the Mycomputer, you will find more drive, that's your old HD, chech evey drive, find the file you need. copy it to the new HD.
8. DONE.
Hope this will work. If now, you need to find the PC company. They have a speciall software can re-image your file, partly. But the basic steps are the same! Just they use a special software.

There are companies that specialize in this. It is usually expensive though. They will use special software to recover your data and send it back in DVD's. If the hard drive is severely damaged, they might have to disassemble it and use a special machine to read the data inside. There are usually a few companies that provide this service in every city. My friend used to work for such a company in NYC.

There are independent companies that will do that. Google and find one. You do have to pay, but if the info is really important it is worth it.
I just Googled Hard Drive Retreval and numerous companies came up.

If you use Windows, you're screwed. No chances. But if you have a Mac, I think there is a HD repair for it. Good luck and I hope you have a Mac or at least run Linux.
