The first Woman Prime Minister in history was Mrs.Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, subsequently many countries like Britain etc. followed suit. The US inspite of its lead role in "liberation" of women has never had a Woman President. There is a strong possiblity they may have a woman nominee in the forthcoming Presedential polls, its interesting to know whether the gender factor will have any bearing in the decision of the voter polls being unchartered territory.

just as tested, if not more, than Bush in 1999 or her husband in 1991.

The first woman PM was Sirimavo B. from Sri Lanka, she did a pretty good job of it and people had very high expectations of her daughter Chandrika Kumaratunge when she was elected the president of the country in 1994, however she abused power, was corrupt to the core and totally ruined the country. Now she has fled Sri Lanka.
Sorry to sidetrack.
For me, no thanks, I will not be voting for a future female presidential candidate (In Sri Lanka!)

Yes, gender will be a factor. You can see it in the posts here. Hillary haters have pinned all kinds of negative attributes on the woman. They suggest that she can't deal with Muslims leaders in the middle east and Asia because these leaders don't talk to women. They make insulting remarks about her appearance and say she would be too controlling; that she would run a "nanny state," and would make US citizens conform to her standards of ideal behavior (as a mother would).

I don't think her opponents dislike her for her gender, but rather for her ideas.

Women have come a long way in America over the last hundred years. While there are still some misogynists around, I think they represent only a small fraction of the people.
