Can lying be a form of sarcasm? Like when someone who doesn't smoke says that they want to smoke only after hearing someone saying "I'm going onto a smoke break." (at work).

I believe that many people who don't smoke say that because they don't get the breaks that non smokers get. I work in the health care industry and many of them go on Smoke breaks, and it does get frustrating when those of us who do not smoke don't get breaks either. It is as if smokers are special because they smoke, they get a break.

Some say, I am going on a smoke break, but don't smoke, just want a break. In answer to your question, yes it can be sarcasm.

More like the other way around: Sarcasm can be a form of lying.

Your example is neither lying or sarcasm. It makes sense to want to smoke in workplaces that only dole out breaks to those who smoke. I don't blame them!

I would say that lying can be a form of sarcasim. I do it all the time, but they way it sounds like you are using it is to get a break from work. So you really are lying. Lying as a form of sarcasim would be like... I dont know what you are talking about ! when i look at the sky its green, how the heck do you see blue that doesnt make sense. Kind of a bad example but you get the gest.

Sarcasm is usually a tone of voice or saying the opposite of what one means, but in a way that it's obvious that's not how one feels...

One can lie in a sarcastic tone of voice, but I don't think of saying something sarcastic as lying (although technically I'm sure it can and does happen..when we say something we know not to be true, that is lying).
