I have cable broadband and I want to play video games online. Do I need wireless internet to do this? Or will a wireless router work with cable broadband? Also what brand of router do you recommend I buy for playing games with playstation, nintendo wii and Xbox?

You need a router if you want MULTIPLE machines connected to the internet at the same time. You can add either a wired or a wireless router there are those routers which will work with your cable modem. A router goes between the modem and your computers / game devices and sets them to a "local" network which connects through the router to the internet.

Since there is very little difference in cost between a wired and a wireless router. Get wireless, it will allow you to connect either with an ethernet cable or wireless and you have the best of both worlds.

Any CABLE/DSL router will work for you. Linksys, Dlink, Netgear just get one that allows ethernet connection to your cable modem. Plug in, setup and use. If you get a router that has a firewall, you will have to set the firewall to allow your games etc to work.

If you buy a wireless router and set it up, you are giving your self wireless internet. It'll be limited range wise to the range of your router. Yes the Routers do work with the Cable broadband service.

You get what you pay for. Examples in link, but around $60 to $120 I assume you have a high speed internet link to your residence that the router will be connected to.
