I use to think lions were, but I read tigers take them down easily. Then I read that grizzly bears are just so massive, a tiger is no match for them. What animal is the beast of all beasts?

Coyote, thanks for helping out and to everyone else as well. You mention that lions and tigers have been taken out by packs of hyenas, elephants. But I want to know who is beast of all beasts in one on one combat.

There really is no "beast of all beasts" because no matter what the animal (not talking about stuff like parasites) it can be killed by another non-human animal.
You mentioned lions... I have seen many lions taken down by elephant, rhinos and groups of hyenas. Same for tigers. I have seen them taken down by elephants and rhinos rather easy (and never pretty).
Do the person who mentioned whales. Depending on the species they are taken down by other whales and some sharks. Someone also mentioned ligers, not even close. To start they do not even come close to being the same size or larger than elephants... whatever you are smoking, I want some! Besides they do not even live in the wild and most are genetic freaks that are messed up in the head. They might be larger than a normal tiger or lion, but because of their gentics they tend to be rather lame at fighting. Also, tigers do NOT live in Africa.
Also religion has NOTHING to do with this question, do not be stupid.
Like I said though, when push comes to shove any and all animals can be defeated so there is no answer to your question. However animals that living in remote areas where there is little to no other creatures, they can be the "beasts of all beasts" of that area.
For example, grizzly bears. In many areas they tend to be the only large animal around. Other than other grizzly bears there is little chance that the animal will be killed by another animal because there is not much around. However there are tons of other animals around the world could kill a grizzly bear. OH! An even better example. Look at Antartica.... on land Penguins are the only thing found. They clearly are the "beasts of all beasts" for that area, but overall they do not even come close.
Does that make sense?
Some also might say Polar Bear. They are taken down rather often by large elephant seals and other large pinnipeds.
So, like I said. Sadly there is no answer to your question. Though if you turned "beast" of all beasts into "beasts" of all beasts would could make a list of the top animals. It is just there is no one single species.
EDIT to add to your edit: Like I said there really is no answer for your question. Why, well it depends on the conditions of the fight or even if you are talking about mixing species from different corners of the world. On land probably the closest you will come would be a African Elephant. In the seas/oceans you are looking at more like an Orca or White Shark. Even then one on one with other animals elephants, orca, white sharks can and do still lose to other animals. Try doing a search for apex predators, that will give you a good list of who is top dog in various areas. However keep in mind that the listing is only predators so would not include something like a hippo, elephant, rhino, etc.
EDIT: Thanks Phantom. :)

It depends on your Culture, Faith, and Region.
The Ultimate in Real Animals would be Whales ( which you probably don't consider beast) and Ligers.
Ligers are Hybrids of Tigers and Lions that can occur naturally but rarely do. They now know there are problems with their Growth, the ones that are born in captivity some times have to have work done to stop them from growing because it becomes imposible for them to meet the demands their diet requires for their size.
Ligers can get larger then Elephants. Some people consider Elephants the biggest and strongest thing on Land. But since Ligers can get larger then them,.. they literally some times play with them like they are toys ( and end up getting nasty injuries). Felines have different muscles then us so they can actually give out more power then their size indicates (it's just these types of mucles go around the organs for protection and into the body where the power will be put into the back legs for pounceing and sprinting).
The actual God or King of Beast is/was a Tiger. Now it is questioned if it was based on Ligers. Over time and moving West through Europe it changes to a Lion ( probably because you were more likely to see a captive or trained Lion in Rome then you would a Tiger).
Lions and Tigers are very different in size and living structures.
The Lioness is actually far better then a Lion,.. they end up feeding and takeing care of the awkward hormonal Males (look at Prides some time). The Male's Mane is only good for fighting with other Males and can some times cause problems while hunting. The Lioness like to work in groups on takeing down food and moveing prides out of their terrortory,.. but if it's not a Pride they are up against,.. they let the males fight instead of wasteing their time and energy.
Tigers live in more varied areas and are various sizes. They are usually Solitary,.. meaning they don't have any others with them when they hunt or defend their lives. The range of Tigers includes ones in Hot Dry places in Africa, to ones in cold places like Russia,.. to the "Swamp Cats" who spend the Majority of their time in water (I think it's 80% of their day or lives). And Yes,.. Tigers are fine with Water but they appear to have something built into them to avoid doing anything to drown themselves that's there since birth.

You said: "It takes a lot more faith to believe these events took place exactly as written than to believe them as being a fairy tale conjured up in the minds of a bunch of conspirators." I don't disagree with that. Yes, it does take "faith" to believe the events took place exactly as written. You said: "It is simply NOT LOGICAL to believe that the inspired writings of God are anything but what they profess to be!!!" Correct again. However, accepting the logic of that part of your equation requires me to believe that a God exists. I do think that many of the writings in the bible were quite profound and inspired by the "idea" of a deity, but that doesn't mean the deity actually exists.

Bacteria. They cause many diseases and we can continue to come up with a "cure" but they mutate so fast that it is impossible to stay ahead of them. They cause mroe destruction than anything else!
