I had to file because I the place I was working gave us the option to take a $5 paycut or close the doors! So we resigned a contract ( it'sa UAW shop) and acctually lost the $5 and our insurance nearly trippled in weekly payment- Family of three to four or more went from $30 a week to $86 a week per check-family of 5 or more from $50 a week to $145 a week per check (me) So $10 and hour hurt from $15. And then my child support went up $100 a month the same year. And then my daughter got sick and was in the hospital for a few months. I was a bad year but we wern't "foolish" with our money, just got some bad luck for a while.....

Until someone walks in your shoes, don't worry what they think. Insurance is a racket and the only one that makes out on the deal is insurance companies. I some times think everyone should stop paying for insurance and then the companies would have to cut back on their premiums. If you get sick the state has to take care of you. The states should be helping out people that only make a little bit of money. Having a job that pays 10 is only 8 take home pay, I wonder if the president could live on that? Taking a pay cut at least kept your job, but sure does hurt, when everything goes up.

People may think that you hadn't managed to save while you had the chance - to counter situations that you later found yourself in.

Ultimately bankruptcy leaves your debt with others.

I don't understand all that insurance stuff but it sounds painful.
