Is it forty or fifty or seventy?

Or is it when they're not allowed to work any more?

Or when they can't have sex?

none of the above == it is an individual thing - has nothing to do with age -- it is a state of mind -- i do not think i will ever be elderly -- yes i have slowed down and i am no looking forward to going out this am and digging out of a foot of snow and it will take a lot longer than it used to but -- hell it has to be done -- either that or the stock will die --- there is no such thing as not "being allow to work" most folks just give up and than they become elderly!!!!

You must be young if you are thinking being elderly means not being able to have sex! I learned in a sociology class that elderly is always 15 years older than you are now!! Elderly is whenever you want it to be. Some of us like to be included at younger ages than others. I like to think of myself as pre-elderly-but I do enjoy being a senior. Not sure even my mom at seventy considers herself "elderly"

I think of elderly as being when an older person can no longer take care of themself without assistance. But, I have an uncle who is 93 and still lives alone, and I call him elderly,so I really don't know what the rules are.

Elderly is just a state of mind. I know people in their nineties whom I would not consider "elderly" according to any of your criteria. They are healthy, vigorous older adults who do all the things some younger people do, and some things better!

Oh yeah. And no one is "not allowed" to work any more, you can work as long as you are able or choose to.

No age. Nobody calls a really active person elderly, so I think you become elderly when you begin to act elderly, whether it's because you can't get around like you used to or you or whatever.

When people are unable to work and enjoy freedoms of going about as they once did, relying on others instead; that is elderly. Exercising the body and brain keep us from sliding down that mountain sooner than we wish.

When they feel elderly. People in good health can feel young for many years and enjoy sex up into their 80s.

It is when they decide to give up. I am not planning on giving up until I am at least 147 years old. Then maybe I'll rest. But then again maybe I'll continue for another century, that would be cool too. So much to learn and not enough time to do it.

Age can be a state of mind as long as the body agrees. Many seniors are living life to the fullest, and some getting about better than I can...
