depends on what sort of hay and what sort of bale. the big round bales are between 200 to 350 kilos, small rectangular ones are between 10 to 20 kilos. some cereal farmers now do huge rectangular bales and i've no idea how much they weigh

A bale of hay could wiegh from 20-2300 lb.
A good square bale of alfalfa to me will weigh 60lb. A good round bale will weigh around 1500 lb. The problem is how good the producer of the hay. A baler is designed to have a constant supply of loose hay. If not eneough hay is supplied or the moisture is extremely dry the bale of hay will be loose and not weigh much. A baler also can be set many different ways to change the weight of bale such as length of bale, tightness of wire or string or differences in brands of machinery. Types of forage crops will cause different wieght of bales. I know you know the difference between a hay bale and a straw bale, but for those that don't straw will normally wiegh less than hay because it is normally a by product of a harvested grain.

In Ca. alfalfa #1 grade bales were typically 80-120 Lb. This is generally horse hay.

It varies depending on where it was bailed, what kind of hay and what type of bailer was used. Many moons ago when I worked most of the summer hauling, loading, and stacking hay, the bales ran around 20-30 pounds. A few would occasionally be heavier.

The lightest I've seen would be a poorly baled wheat straw bale, about 20#. The heaviest would be a round bale of wet weeds left to ferment and fed to hogs, over 3000#. RScott

it depends. depends on how well it's dried and the content of the hay. i.e. how much grass, weeds and such. i would guess about 50-80lbs
