not true vista home premium is only slower than xp if you are running the areo interface and ( real needs a decent graphics chip oe dedicated video card too) do not have enough ram to run it ( min 2 gb ddr2) and it has now matured enough that it is actualy better than xp ( more secure)
if your laptop has less than 2 gb of ddr2 ram and does not have a dedicated video card then you should turn off the areo interface and not only that but if you are buying an operating system it is even cheaper than xp
most programs are now vista capable as many vendors are now upgrading there drivers and support
good luck and take care
hope this helps
BTW many that are cutting down vista have never used it ( or only used it in a limited capacity) and i have used win xp home (old computer i still have p4 and slow as molasses) and vista home premium 64 bit ( my new computer amd x2 4200 )

Its true, at the moment people thing vista is bad-grapes.
Many people are weak, and just feel that if 1 person dislikes vista, then they go-with-the-flow...
If they get an error, they think its the end-of-the-word and rush back to XP. Personaly, Vista rocks. Its not as slow as people assume.

yes that is kinda correct though as vista matures and more updates are released it will slowly become better just like XP is today. Vista uses a considerable amount more system resources than xp because of the new fancy graphics e.t.c but if you have at least 1gb of ram for premium you'll survive :)

My laptop is running Vista Home Basic, and it's scraping by on 1.5GB of RAM. Your proposed version of Vista will be slower than XP running on your laptop. It will be slower than coal-tar dripping through a funnel, in fact.

Vista (any version) on any PC is slower than XP. If performance is important to you then I wouldn't run Vista at all.

vista is a newbie in os market and needs to mature a lot to be able to become like xp is today. it is resource hungry and hence in every matter will be slower than xp. if performance really matters for you than you will be better off with xp. if you are really interested in vista then you can try dualbooting your system

Mine is slower to boot-up and you need 2gig to make it run smoothly but once up and running I prefer it to XP....... in fact i seems to run faster/more smoothly compared to XP.
Saying that thoug, I only had 1gig of ram in my old PC, so with twice the memory, it should run faster.
