I think most of those will see themselves as basically good. When we become good at lying to others, we also become good at lying to ourselves because the best lies are those that we believe also.
Our human nature has a tremendous potential for self deception. We're good at rationalizing and self justification.
I saw an interview with a young robber who had shot his victim when the victim hadn't handed over his wallet. The robber said that the victim brought it on himself.

A guy pointed a gun at his girl friend and fired this girls mother intercepted the bullet and took her own life.
While this guy was in jail he kept asking my friend why she wouldn't return his calls. HE "just wanted to apologize" (so he says) he really thought that if only he could talk to her he could win her back as his girlfriend. HE harrassed my friend many times to help him win her back. My freind reffused and tried to talk sence into this man. He just couldn't get through to this guy.
This is a true story. And from my life experience, I'm sure it's not the only one. This guy sobbed because he couldn't get his girlfriend back NOT at the fact he almost killed her and instead killed her mother. This is not the works of Satan nor a mental promblem (in the clinical sence) This is guy is the ultimate example of a selfscentered man. He really doen't see the problem here.
The question is, what can we do about this kind of person? If he ever getts out of jail she will be the one on the run.

The less u think about them the better for u. Satan never prompts anyone to do anything, its when we human beings who play into his hands that he gives such advices that would leave anyone gasping!!! I do not like blaming it on Satan. I have always maintained that its a choice we make that impacts our lives here on earth and in heaven. Basically its their action that describes them best.
And Mr. Lucifer's advices had always been selfish and destructive. Sadly such people does affect the people with whom they live. One just have to wait for their extinction, that's all. I for one stay far away from such people even if I have to bear the brunt but they will not go on forever. If such people can be evil then I can choose to be good.Just playing with words.

I agree with Small but id like to expound on a point he missed, that weakness combined with an internal hunger that never seems to be filled and not having the internal strength or discipline to control the hungers that rule him.the fear of not filling the hunger within makes him incredibly self centered, self serving and manipulative. His outlook is "I want what I want! and I dont care what I have to do to get it!
The thing is we all have this hunger and as we mature we have to learn to control unhealthy desires.
A person who doesnt have this ability is considerd a socio-path, so although not INSANE, technically he cant be called "Normal".as only 4% of the male population is considered to have various forms of sociopathy .
As far as Satan goes ,the Bible says he is like a ravening lion , always looking for whom he can destroy, so I believe like the lion, he preys on the weak ,and as a christian I know that temptation comes hardest ,when Im not taking care of the internal battleground of my mind.
Daily discipline and right thinking is important.
here is a good link about such disorders,

I believe that all evil is simply the manifestation of internal weaknesses... such as lack of self-esteem, a sense of perennial injustice that one is incapable of dealing with normally, a sense of inadequacy to handle circumstances and surroundings, a sense of helplessness against perceived oppression etc. etc. ....... these internal weaknesses put pressure on the person and he/she takes to evil ways to counter the perceived vulnerability of hurt or harm to self due to those weaknesses. In my view... the evil is weakness and the good is strength.

I have spent a lot of time trying to discover 'what is evil'.
So far, I have found only 2 things which seem to be the causes of acts which are labeled 'evil' by people
1. lust for power - seeking power for the sake of the intoxication of being powerful, with no other genuine purpose for possessing that power. Such people will do anything to gain & keep their power.
2. selfish pride - It say 'my/our way/team/country/religion (etc.) is best, to hell with anyone who says otherwise or gets in the way. Anyone or thing that doesnt' conform to or serve what they value, is sacrificed, alienated or made a scapegoat.
Hope this helps you
