funny, I always thought I was free long long ago, and have these people ever heard of inalienable rights? To me Inalienable rights means that I am born free and with certain rights. Now the question comes on how I keep my rights, and fighting to support tyranny, illegal invasions, and conquests is not my idea on how to stay free.

rationalization for invasion. We want access to that oil and to make sure the supply in Kuwait and SA is safe.

we also wanted to test out how little military we need to invade a nation: evidently that number proved to be 30,000 troops with minimal losses.

the easiest way to explain iraq?

Half a million children had died due to the sanctions placed there over ten years. Anyone with any skills or education had already pretty much left the country if they had a chance long before we invaded.

the economy was DESTROYED due to the sanctions. Any money that WAS coming in (illegally or otherwise) was funneled to the ba'ath party. The irony is that the sanctions were to pressure Saddam out of power, but he knew that in order to stay in power, all he had to do was maintain control of the capital and bring in loyalist kids from the countryside to be the republican guard.

Remember, in terms of economics, Iraq was a sick man dying slowly.

What it needed was a "doctor" to come help the situation, remove saddam and foster a gentile transition.

Bush did not do that. To continue the analogy, he came in and beheaded the sick man in a violent way. Not exactly what a doctor would do. Although perhaps not purposely, he destroyed any stability the nation had. Any shred of order was removed when he disbanded the iraqi military and removed anyone from government who was affiliated with the ba'ath party (Ba'ath party members were not all loyalists, most were forced to join if they wanted a job)

That's when **** hit the fan.

The president wanted to bring stability, but he didn't know the first thing about making that transition easy.

It's a mistake that's cost almost 4,000 american lives (almost 10,000 injured) and between 50,000 and 655,000 (depending on how you measure it, either violent deaths or deaths connected to war) iraqi lives.

Two words for the management of this war: F*k. up.

When talking about freedom or liberty. There are two types: type 1 is your own freedom (negative freedom) and type 2 is freedom under social moral (positive freedom)

Type 1 is about your life. In life, we always face obstacles, Then, there are three case: free without obstacle; free in overcoming obstacle and free to give in to obstacle.

Type 2 is about the freedom limited by social moral. e.g. Those about "Thou shall not ..." Then, you are free to obey them or through legal channels to modify them.

The occupation in Iraq can easily resolved if you dynamically swing along the above description.
