I've always wanted to write fiction, yet when I write, it reads back horribly.
So, I thought perhaps I should finish college. Something that I started a hundred years ago, & then my writing will definately improve.
At my age, is it a good idea to spend the money to finish college? I mean what are my chances of actually being hired?

If you do not finish college you will always be wondering what your life would be if you had indeed completed college./

Like many of the art fields (illustration, writing, dance, etc.), you do not need a degree to work in the profession unless you intend to oversee others instead of write. Degree or not, you get work because you are good at what you do. From your description, you seem to need some sort of mentorship though. Do not assume, however, that you will get whatyou need to compete professionally at college. I would just as much look in to writing programs offered by established professionals in the field. Many of these individuals travel around the country teaching workshops. These are often better than what you will get from an English professor that is not competing in the profession.

You should finish it because it's enriching emotionally and personally, not based on whether it will be lucrative in getting hired. Also, maybe you don't need a degree, you just need to take some writing courses, so I would do that first.

It is never too late to learn something. It may not be easy, but it would be worth it. 50? Not that old. My sisters mother in law is 91, and is still doing quite well for herself.
