My favourites are the ones who actually want people to write their whole assignment for them, only they try to disguise it as if they just want help; as in:

"I'm having trouble understanding the origins of the French Revolution. Please write a short paragraph or essay on the three estates to help me understand it better. Use details please."

LMAO!

I see we have a newcomer here. Welcome.

A good observation after such a short time...

Months ago when I noticed this problem I began referring "those people" (where have you heard that quote before?) to the proper category - Homework Help. I think very few even read or considered what I said. They still show up here as regularly, and especially the day before the test or their homework is due, asking for the reason(s) why the American Civil War, World War I, Pearl Harbor and the Vietnam War occurred.

I then contacted Yahoo! Answers and suggested mulitiple categories for the History category, my suggestion was taken, and months later there are no new History categories yet. (Ever look at the Music categories? Rock 'n' Pop, Hip Hop. Lyrics. Etc.) I think a History Homework Help category is needed - because "those people" just won't stop or go to the proper category. Occasionally I DO go to the Homework Help category, as I don't mind helping others with their homeowrk -- but the History questions there are few and far between...

The options as they stand now still are:

1. ignore them
2. remind them of the proper category for their questions
3. answer those who are polite (not many, really) and can at least spell, know grammar, ask one or two questions instead of just copying from a book and ordering you to "list, explain, describe", or write their whole danm homework assignment, and do choose the Best Answer
4. offer amusing, but not exactly historically correct answers

Y'know if they were truly lazy they wouldn't even ask "Answers".

Maybe we shouldn't always assume the worst?

Maybe 1) people have different learning styles 2) you get different perspectives in short form, rather than one perspective in long form, as with a book 3) there's more interaction... and a whole bunch of other reasons you could come up with if you thought about it a little rather than reflexively waxing self-righteous.

I'm happy to share my knowledge, and even like to show off. It's a challenge to compress and impart it with some style. If you don't like to do this, why not just skip the question rather than pontificating about your own superiority? Maybe you were lucky enough to go to a good school with teachers that gave a damn, rather than the outhouses we're using now... i.e., maybe the poor bastards never learned to read, because nobody ever cared enough to make them, and/or make it interesting for them.

Because other people keep giving them complete answers instead of really helping them learn on their own. The same thing happens in Mathematics where askers will post a list of 5 to 20 problems, all solved the same way, and instead of showing how to work them out, there is always someone who will just give them the final answer to each and every problem.

Where does one find the spark that will ignite the will to learn?

Understanding that many simply wish to finish their home work it is possible to find answer and prospective that one will not find in books, and if this inspires anyone to look after the homework is turned in then maybe one other person may awaken and drink from the well of knowledge.

Agree with you. What is more, YA already has a section entitled Homework Help. Student type Questions should automatically be transferred there.

Because bedridden old fogies with post graduate educations will do it for them.
