I asked a question along these lines (re sports in general) recently. Not surprisingly most men said 'no' to sports like boxing where men might hurt women. However many women said they wanted to compete with men no matter what the sport. Roughly equal numbers said they should only compete together in non-contact sports.

(see the 'comments' section for a breakdown of stats).
One guy suggested that boxing should be the first sport that men & women compete in together - he got 19 thumbs down!

I don't understand why people like watching two boxers of either sex fight. What is the point?
I don't know many boxers---don't follow the sport---but I will say that Floyd Mayweather, at least, does some pretty awesome things to help underprivileged youths stay off the streets. I love to watch him jump rope.

lol, you're an idiot. Obviously when women mean equal, they mean in deserving to be treated equally and with respect. And not being treated as inferior. Men and women are equal, not identical, there's a difference. Men and women both have thier strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other. One's of men's naturaly strengths is physical, brute strength and power. I think most women already knew that men and women were different in that aspect.

As an equalist I would say that females ARE equal, but they are DIFFERENT.
Besides, boxing is just pure thuggery and not a 'sport' and should be outlawed. It appeals only to men with big fat cigars in their mouths and to women who like to see men get hurt.

Just because a man and a woman weight the same does not make them equal boxers.
Men tend to store far less body fat than women, so if they are the same weight, chances are, the man will have more muscle mass. Women's breasts will also get in the way. Men are also faster, with better reflexes, and tougher.
It's a no-contest.

Why would anybody want to be a boxer? It's brutal and people have been injured and even killed while fighting.

Good question and perhaps Ali's daughter might do it one day. I think she could whip the butt of many fine young men out there.

I suspect that though it's a physically viable option, most viewers wouldn't have a stomach for it for cultural reasons, and entertainment boxing is about making money. No viewers, no money.

Women sports are like the minor leagues. Humans who cannot play like a pro go there.
Same with women's hall of fame. There are a lot of women there worthy of the regular hall of fame, but the majority were the "first woman to ever..:" not really an achievment.
