For years I have watched characters on TV and movies carrying on fictional conversations and they never say hello at the start and they never say good-bye at the end. This is too common to be coincidental. Is there some kind of industry policy involved or is it that the industry has some fancy rationale involving the psychology of the viewer.....or some such nonsense.

I never noticed because I rarely do either. A lot more people than you'd think don't say "Hello" or "Goodbye". I use the person's name, he or she responds, then we have our conversation. I rarely use the word, "Goodbye". So, why does everyone believe they HAVE to say, "Hello" and "Goodbye" in the movies? Probably the scriptwriters don't speak on the phone like that or simply need to "cut to the chase".

I've also heard cops and detectives question people not saying something like "Honey, I'm home!" I've never announced myself when I came in the house. No one in my family does that. But, people assume it's common behavior.

Here's my favorite "They're Everywhere!" Look around in scenes when they have a water carafe. Much of the time, it is a pitcher that has a black top, bottom and handle and a copper-colored body. I used to waitress while saving to go back to college, and both restaurants I worked in had these as coffeepots though I imagine they're for water in most movies. They show up in restaurants, courtrooms, meetings, etc. I told my mom my theory is that they actually are aliens taking this shape so they can spy on us. *giggle* There must be hundreds of these in storage, ready to be carted out for any scene where someone might want a glass of water~or perhaps coffee~at some time. Watch for them! They're EVERYWHERE!

I've noticed that too!

I also notice that they NEVER close a door -- unless it's a horror movie or something. They walk out of the house to go shopping and leave the door open.

I notice something else that I bet NO ONE else would ever notice. For the last 15 years, in 90% of all TV shows, commercials and movies, if they show the kitchen, they ALL have the same dish drainer! It's a wooden one that folds up -- I have one just like it! You can see it in Home Improvement episodes and in the JLo movie 'Enough' -- and in hundreds of other shows! I keep wondering -- did the stores in Hollywood have a HUGE sale on those things???

I have always wondered that. I had a friend in high school, she would just hang up! I never knew we were done chatting until she would just HANG UP! It was really weird.
