In England there are two types of Lawyer.
A Barrister, who argues cases in court, and a Solicitor, who does all the other types of law.
Attorney is the word commonly used in America for a Lawyer.
Advocate is another word for lawyer, and 'pleader' is a slang term for a criminal defense lawyer.
They all have law degrees. In the UK there are different 'paths' to the practice of law depending on whether you want to be a Barrister or a Solicitor.
