OK,

The highest mileage you can get from a motorcycle or moped is the Velosolex 3600, 200+MPG.

I am not sure a Royal Enfield Diesel will get 200MPG, but I have heard 150 is reasonable. You cannot "buy" a Royal Enfield diesel new that I know of, just a kit that you can put a diesel engine on it.

You could get a micro chopper, they get around 125MPG.

My Bike gets 110MPG, a Bajaj Chetak.

You want a bike that uses no gas at all? Check out a Vectrix!

A tick for bruns'
The Royal Enfield in (petrol) fuel trials conducted by BIKE Magazine showed 90 Mpg and the lowest emisions for a none injected or catalized vehicle known.
The deisel version gets 200 mpg and is so cute A Classic in it's own right.
Oh and being a mechanical injection system it runs on good old veggie oil too,
So if you've got a take away near by and you have the know how . fuel will be nearly free and good for the environment as it is'nt being dumped in a land fill and also from a renewable source so carbon neutral to boot.. :-)

Most all smaller engined bikes give great mileage however they suffer from lack of realistic power. I learned to ride on a GZ250 Suzuki that sipped gasoline at a very frugal pace but I was scared to ride in heavy traffic for lack of power. I then moved up to a 650 Suzuki thumper (single cylinder) that had plenty of power but the big single vibrated pretty bad above 65MPH. It got better than 60 miles per gallon. I now ride a Suzuki Intruder that is a V-twin of 805cc's and it is smooth, fast, looks good, and gets an average of 58MPG. With some careful riding I've managed over 60MPG.

The Kawasaki Ninja 250
55 MPG running it hard
75-80 MPG running it easy, and after engine break in
its sporty, it looks and runs like a bigger bike
it will go 100 MPH
sounds good, looks good, most people won't know its a 250cc
you will get the most bike and the most power from any 250cc engine

Take a look at Yamaha Virago 250cc, V-Twin single carb, H.D. sporster design style. I get 83 to 85 M.P.G. on trips at speeds up to 75 m.p.h.
Starting in 2008 they calling them V-Star 250cc same bike . TOTALY reliable.

The most efficient motorcycles have smaller displacement, four stroke engines (100-250cc).
Kawasaki ninja 250 or a Honda Rebel 250 would be ideal for transportation purpose. Check out

You go with Honda rebel 250cc that is best for fuel efficient. It also depends on where you ride. If you ride in heavy traffic, you need more horsepower for your bike.
