To anyone who has seen "I Am Legend"...?

Question

I don't understand a couple of things... maybe some of you did?

1. Why didn't he give Sam(antha) the stuff he used for that one rat (the one in the beginning of the movie that acted normal) when Sam got cut?

2. What was up with the mannequins? At first I thought they became the Zombie things at night... but still what was with the mannequins in the video store?

3. How did that one mennequin, (Fred), move out onto the
sidewalk? Was it just me... or did "Fred's" head seem to move while Will Smith drove past it?

For #1,

Yea I know... there was only one rat that became normal again. So why didn't Will Smith's character use what he injected in that one particular rat in Sam?


I cried when Will had to suffacate the dog.

The leader was probably supposed to be George Bush or something.

I disagree with a few of you on the mannequin trap scene. I think Neville DID fall in his own trap. My friend and I had the same discussion after we saw the movie.
The way I interpreted it: Neville set the trap himself and forgot about it. It's hard to tell mannequins apart, especially from a distance. It's not illogical that he could have used a similar looking mannequin with a similar looking sweatshirt to the "Fred" mannequin outside the movie store. He's been trapping zombies every day for almost three years, it's perfectly possible for him to not remember every single place he's set snares. I think my friend overestimates the intelligence of the zombies. The snares he sets are fairly complicated, and remember he uses a nail gun to fasten them to the pavement. Throughout the whole movie, you never see a zombie so much as using a simple tool or weapon, let alone creating intricate booby traps.

As for the zombies "waiting" to ambush him: he was hanging there (bleeding) like a dinner bell for several hours while Sam was barking her head off. The zombies would have to be deaf and noseless to not know he's there.

This is the way I thought of it when I first saw the movie. I think it makes the most sense. Neville obviously didn't think the zombies were capable of even thinking to move the mannequin, judging by the way he freaked out. (and he has been studying their behavior for years.) In fact, he noted in his video log that he suspected they were actually DECREASING in brain function. The only logical conclusion he reached was that Fred was a real person, which is why he went ballistic; he thought he was losing it, but he really just misplaced a trap.

Whether Neville or the zombies set the trap, both ways make sense. I just happened to interpret it this way.

And yes, Fred's head did move a little, but that's just the director's way of letting the audience know that Neville's mind was playing tricks on him.

with the dog - it was too late. the cure takes a while to work (and he didnt even know it was a cure b/c he tried it on the human and it appeared to not work) and sam was already showing symptoms. maybe if he had waited longer, the dog would have gotten better? the point was, he didnt think there was a cure, and he didn't want his dog to be infected. his dog meant so much to him, and he couldn't see her like that.

mannequins.....will smith was all alone, he set those up for himself to make him feel less alone. these mannequins werent zombies or anything - just something he made up to do.

The "fred" mannequin got moved by one of the infected people so that he'd get trapped. Notice how the infected guy came out when it started to get dark - he was gonna kill him. When he saw will smith had escaped, and sent the dogs after him. The infected guy who trapped him was the same guy who "exposed himself to sunlight" earlier in the movie when will smith trapped one of them. The infected guy used the same tactic to catch will. At the end, the guy banging his head on the glass is the same guy - this guy was kind of the "leader" of them.

It would be an amazingly beautiful world if we could get rid of darkness with simply our thoughts. But, we're not here to experience only beauty, we are here to experience everything, including darkness. Planet Earth is a school and we are here to learn, but lessons are not always fun or easy. When we start to accept everything, even the darkness, as perfect and necessary, we begin to see through the illusion. Good and bad are concepts of this earthly realm, beyond it they have no meaning. But, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't act out against such injustices, it only means that when it happens we must recognize the perfection in that darkness. We may not have much control over what happens in the world, but we do have control over how we feel about it. It is not what happens to us that matters, but rather, how we react to it. A great poet once wrote; "And moving into a newer age we seeing how love outweighs all rage and pain, seeing that nothing is ever in vain, we will understand no wrong... we will understand no right... we will simply understand."

1: I don't know exactly.
2: The mannequins were to keep him company, as if the city was still running. It was an everyday place for him (to normalise his life a bit).
3: He probably moved it and roleplayed later to have something to do. OR a new idea that just came to mind, the "dark seekers" moved it there at night to draw his attention there. He did get caught by his own trap right?

1) He didn't use that vaccine on sam because at the time sam got infected it didn't work right (when he captured the infected human he put the same vaccine from the normal rat in her, and it only worked for a minute then she went back to crazy... then later on in the movie he realized he had to lower her temperature for it to work right) so at the time it was ineffective.

2) I think the point of the mannequins was just to show how it messes with your mind to not have any kind of human contact in 3 years, you get a little screwy so he had conversations with them.

3) the infected people put fred out on the sidewalk over night when they can roam the streets to bring Will Smith to the trap. They realized he talked to them probably and knew it would throw him off and piss him off to know that they actually do have some smarts (and it worked because they used the same kind of trap that he used to capture them earlier) and as far as the head moving I didnt notice it.. so im not sure.

I think everyone got it right about the first two questions. I also think that the zombies put Fred the mannequin out on the street to lure Neville into their trap. (Yes, I think the zombies set the trap, I don't think he fell into his OWN trap.)

I DID notice Fred turn his head, it was very clear, I thought -- but my boyfriend didn't notice it! I think, maybe, that Neville was going a little bit crazy... I can't think of any other explanation.

I sure wish Sam (the dog) could have lived to go to Vermont with the girl and the kid. I KNEW the dog would die, but I wish she hadn't...

Taking in consideration the relationship of the trap and Fred, i don't believe that will smith place neither there. If the trap was set there by will smith then what would be the purpose of him placing Fred there? Because Fred was there, i believe the trap had to be set there by the diseased humans to lure will smith into the trap. The fact that the main diseased human was waiting there with his disease dogs, like he planned it, further persuades me to think they were behind it all.

Canines r not immune 2 being bitten & that rat it was prolonged for him. He set them up in the video store 2 act like ppl so it would seem normal. Prolly the Zombies I mean after 3 yrs they had 2 learn something.
