I am clearly becoming cynical because for a moment, I thought your post was written by an adult just wanting to get a 'point' across and that was pretending to be a child.

Anyway...

Jews have lived in what is now Israel for over 3000 years - continuously. The region was called Judea, until the Romans conquered it, and renamed it Palestina. They named it after the war-loving Philistines who were known for their hatred of the Jews.

But over the years, Jews returned to the area, Palestine. Before Islam was even in existance, there were Jews living in Jerusalem.

Now let's jump to 1948: there are Jews living there, Arab, and Christians. The term 'Palestinian' refers to them ALL.

The British have the mandate for Palestine. They decide the fairest thing is to split the land: the bigger part goes to the Arabs, a smaller part to the Jews. Remember that in the years just before this, six million Jews had been slaughtered by the Nazis. So they are desperate to once again have their own homeland.

The Jews agree to this partition plan. The Arab world refuses. FIVE Arab countries declare war on the new Jewish state (Israel). They attack Israel and only by some sort of miracle, the Israelis manage to hold their own. Amazing, because the Arabs had far more money and more sophisticated weapons.

The invading Arab armies tell the Arabs living in Palestine to flee, and that they can return when the Jews have been conquered.

But Israel defends herself. The Palestinian Arabs get put into refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt. Nobody will absorb them into their country.

At the same time an EQUAL number of Jews are kicked out of all the Arab states. They are welcomed in Israel.

Now jump forward to 1967 - Egyptian troops are lining up on the border with Israel. The Egyptians insist that the UN troops leave (they have been there to keep the peace). And the Egyptians go and block the waterways that Israel uses and which she needs to survive.

This time, Egypt has Russian technology and arms. Israel cannot hope to hold her own - unless she can SOMEHOW defeat Egypt within a mere SIX DAYS.

And again, by a miracle, she does. In defending against Egypt, Israel acquires a bit more land. But she's given it back (e.g. the Sinai) in return for peace.

All Israel has ever wanted is peace.

Repeat after me: There was never an independent state called Palestine.
Now, there are some people who do not like that fact, but one of the major problems with the whole issue is that they pretend that there is an actual country called Palestine which Israel is unjustly occupying.
As for the circumstances in 1967, the Six Day war occurred between Israel and neighboring Arab countries. The territory that they took over (West Bank, Gaza, Sinai, and the Golan Heights) actually belonged to Jordan, Egypt, and Syria.

The Arab world abandoned the Palestinians when Israel was born and the 1967 war, which Israel won in 6 days, pitted them against EVERY Muslim country around them so they took certain territories as a buffer. When Egypt recognized their right to exist, they gave back the Sinai Peninsula. Since the Palestinian terrorists refuse to stop murdering Israeli children, the "land for peace" deal Israel agreed to cannot go forward.

The country was never Palestine.

The Ottoman Empire took over Israel, but there still were Israelis living in the country.

After WWI, Israel became a British protectorate.

After WWII, lands were allocated to be Israel and Palestine.

In 1967, the Arab countries attacked Israel and lost (in 6 days!), and Israel owned all of the lands that were the British protectorate.

At some point, Israel gave the Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt, for peace purposes.

Palestinians had always been nomadic tribes, that also lived in the Sinai Peninsula and Jordan, but Jordan kicked them out.

You're teacher is correct.
Read the Book of Exodus in the Old Testament and it will explain a lot.
Here's the rub.
Palestinians are the decendents of Bedoins that roamed the desserts for centurys and had no property.
After WWII there were a massive number of displaced European Jewish refugees that united under a Zionist flag and looking for someplace to go.
Actually, the British government was basically in charge of their resettlement and a decision was made because of their biblical history to dump them in the dessert. The Zionist believed this to be their ancestral home and decided to never again be victims of any more holacausts and created their own country (Israel).
The Bedoins, also decendents of Abraham, (Book of Genesis) were not happy about this Jewish immigration and renamed themselves Palestinians and claimed the dessert was their land..
Thus...The rest is history.
I suppose, if the truth were known, Adolph Hitler was the biggest catalyst for this debaucle.

Hope this helps.

Um the war broke out in 1948. And, it is a touchy issue. Unless you are studying mideast history or focusing on the Palestinian/Israeli issue, asking your teache to explain it is almost doing yourself a disservice. It would take dozens of hours of class just to study the history.

I will let you make your own assumptions on the issue, but you should read up on the problem. There is much reading material out there that does a good job of displaying both sides of the debate.

In the words of the late military commander of the PLO as well as member of the PLO Executive Council, Zuhair Muhsin:

"There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity....yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian state is a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel."
