Over the last several years, the fantasy genre has a great appeal for me. It has all the elements of other genres in it, with magic, wherewolves, witches, all thrown in. It also has the human element, suspense, drama, romance, all tied in to a world somone designed purely out of their imagination. It rocks! Which genre do you like best?

Movie Theaters today are not like they were back in the 50's and 60's. Widescreen had begun with different systems to lure people back to the Cinema and away from their TV's.Cinerama was invened in 1952 and the first movie "This is Cinerama"which was photographed with a three lens camera and projected onto a huge curved screen with three projectors. The idea was to put the audience inside the action on the screen.CinemaScope began in 1953.It was filmed with an Anamorphic lens. When projected in the Cinema through another anamorphic lens the image was stretched to a 2.55:1 ratio.Todd - AO was a new process which did not suffer from earlier widescreen problems. With the help of the American Optical Company ,a new type of camera and lens was manufactured.Todd - AO used 70 MM wide film and six track stereophonic sound and it projected at 30 frames per second instead of 24.The film was projected onto a 128 degree curved screen, and the image was exceptionally clear.
Because of rising costs for film and cameras all these systems disappeared and today we mainly have anamorphic Panavision.Idon't go to the cinema anymore because i have my own one at home. But when i did go to those early systems i enjoyed many movies such as Westerns,Musicals,Action, and Space. For example:
"How The West Was Won" - Cinerama 3 split screen 1963.
"Oklahoma!"- Todd -AO 1955.
"Grand Prix" - Cinerama 70MM.1966.
"2001:A Space Odyssey" Super Panavision 70MM 1968

I love watching action and adventure movies on theaters. They usually bring out the tension with the speakers and huge screen which I don't have on my TV. The rest of genres I usually watch on DVDs, alone at my home, they are more suitable that way.

Action, lots of great special effects, large lizard/dinosaurs are good. All because of the huge screen and surround sound!
