Hi Tania,
Yes, women can and do become Freemasons (not just Eastern Star) but fully participate in all rites, Lights, and ceremonies of Freemasonry up to and including 33 degree.
I refer to the American Federation of Human Rights, American Co-Masonry. Our Grand Lodge is in Larkspur, Colorado but we have Lodges from Seattle to San Diego, Atlanta to Brazil, New York to Florida. Oklahoma and Utah.
To join, please first contact Larkspur (link below) and inquire.
We require the applicant to be of legal age (21 in most cases), to believe in a Supreme Being (religion is not specified but may not be an atheist), to be tolerant of all religions, races and genders. Your family must not have major objections to you joining a Lodge. You are expected to attend regularly, usually once a month. The yearly dues are nominal.
Understand that Co-Masonry is not a social organization, nor is it just about doing good works. Co-Masonry is involved in improving your own conduct and improving the world. It is a system of morality based upon ancient symbols. It is a progressive system wherein there is no dogma and no actual teachers, no gurus.
Our leaders are elected each year. Right now in both my Blue Lodges (one in Glendale CA and one in Santa Cruz CA) the Right Worshipful Master (head of the Lodge) is a woman. We men and women work together to do ritual. It is beautiful and balanced that way.
I urge you to seek out a Path that gives you harmony. This one certainly has for me. If you wish more information, feel free to write to me and to write to Larkspur.
With Heartiest Good Wishes,
Ellsworth

Not a real mason. There are continental "lodges" that admit women in France, and a couple clandestine(fake, even though sometimes well-meaning) organizations elsewhere like the "Co-masons" but they are not recognized. You should look into the Eastern Star which is a wonderful organization- also your husband(if and when you are married) can become a mason if he is motivated to do so and your entire family will benefit from the light he receives!
"Clandestine Masonry takes many forms, from outright fraud to well meaning imitation of our ceremonies. So called “Co-Masonry” even admits women and is said to have elevated more than one to “Mater”. All of these are spurious and counterfeit. No trace can be found in truth of any assertions of legitimate descent form our Ancient Brethren. So, may prudence teach us to avoid this strange and mixed company lest the secrets of Freemasonry be unlawfully obtained.
As indicated above, recognition alone removes the bar against the visitation of an irregular lodge. It is a Masonic offense of the most serious nature to fraternize with or visit a clandestine lodge. Loss of one’s membership is too great a price to pay for a glimpse of what at best is still illegal and at worst a travesty on our ancient ceremonies."

This all depends on what masonic order you look at.
Mainstream Freemasonry, the one you tend to read about most, is male only. In some countries this fraternity has groups linked to them for the female relations of Freemasons, like
Order of the Easter Star - www.easternstar.org/
Order of Amaranth -www.amaranth.org/
White Shrine of Jerusalem - www.supremeshrine.org/
Social Order of Beauceant -
There are a few others as well. However not all these groups are available in all countries.
If you were specifically looking for a group where women would be called Freemasons then you would need to look for your local lodge of either:
Le Droit Humain - www.droit-humain.org/ which is a mixed gender organisation that consider themselves to be both masonic and it's members freemasons.
Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons(HFAF) - http://www.hfaf.org/ a female only version of Freemasonry.
Although these 3 different order do not recognise each other as Freemasonry, they see each other as masonic in all things other than who they do, or do not, allow to join. And ALL three organisations tend to talk to one another on matters of Freemasonry on the whole.
Hope that helps.

Hi Laura, the answer is yes they can. I do not mean Eastern Star, but admitted to full rites, lights and privileges. The Order is called Co-Masonry. Co- because it admits women and men, of all races. Most traditional Freemasonry today admits all races but will not admit women. American Co-Masonry has been around since the early 1900s and our roots go back to the 1800s in France. We have Lodges throughout the United States, and some in Chile, Brasil, and Canada. We work what is called Blue Lodge (Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason), some York rite degrees, and Scottish Rite. These we preserve in form that most Freemasons of any order would recognize. We ask the same from our Brethren who are women as we do our men: 21 years of age or older, believe in a Supreme Being, are of good report / character, are tolerant of folks of other beliefs, are not slaves (including to drugs), and wish to make the world better by making themselves better. We are esoteric alchemists: changing the lead of our hearts into gold. A slow process. If I can be of any service, please feel free to write to me. You might wish to click on the link below to read more and to ask for an application if you wish to join. We do not recruit; you have to ask. Under the United Grand Lodge of England, no; but in the USA you can join the Eastern Star if you are related to a freemason.
There are Lodges under the French system that admits women though. Bondi give the best answer.

Your can become an Easter Star, or join the Order of Amaranth, but I think for the order of Amaranth you have to be a sister, daughter, mother, or wife of a mason in order to join.
