the 73 was not a good yr, regarding the electrical......but triumph and norton were famous for poor chargeing systems.. don't let this hold you back buying one if it's in decent shape....... they got lots of torque, so 2 up is no problem... brakeing is only fair , vibration is not bad .... I had several english bikes over the yrs. .....bsa and royal enfield were my favorites .......parts for all these are easy to get and prices are reasonable..., a bonnie would be a good choice for a female of a lighter build..... big enough but not bulky , plenty of power but not radical , easy to work on , not hard to start thanks to the amal concentric bowels ( carbs.....hope this helps a little.......Daryl

I had one of these when it was 2 years old, absolutely hated it, the engine was pretty good but overheated, electrics were pretty crap and the chrome on the wheels not much better than italian chrome. Spent a lot of time getting the thing sorted but the engine was very good and had a lot of potential for tuning.
Vibrated like a giant dildo.
O.K this is typical of a lot of british bikes at the time but the bonnie was pretty crap. Got rid of the Bonnie and bought a Commando which is/was so good I've still got it.
Also had a Triton with a T140 engine which was sh*t hot after I'd had the crank balanced [that cures the vibration] and a good head job done to it plus the standard gas flowing etc.
Getting a bit expensive now, if you are like me and love constant maintanance O.k really, but don't expect too much.
Discs are crap and the electric start model has serious problems with the electric starter unless you convert it to a 4 brush.
Boyer electronic ignition conversion works very well.

Personally I like the T120 better.

Buy a new 900 bonnie instead.
It ain't worth the un reliability to have a pre 73 tax free bike..
I know the new one isn't a "real " trumpet but it's as good as it gets...
Anyway you'd look better on a nuclear red speed triple :-) ( aka Natalie Imbruglia's bike in film Johny English)

I would give my left nut for an old Bonny. Bob that **** and ride it hard. If you put the time into it, then you are sure get your time out of it. Hells yeah babe, get that bike and you will have a nice little scoot. If you need any help with the project, just let me know, all I charge is the beer...

This was the bike to have when I was a teenager. It drew the looks that people today reserve for BMW or Range Rover Sport. Worth having if you want to be different.

I had a '76. Loved it, except for the Feds here in the US making them swap the side that the rear brake pedal and shifter was on.
It always started on one kick, tho.

If your thinkng of buying do so harder and harder to get. Time work and money can sort any problems out.
