Sea floors are generally very young geologically speaking. They are being formed now at the spreading centers where two tectonic plates are moving apart. As they move apart over millions of years they get pushed up as mountains where two plates collide, that is why you can find fossils on mountain tops!

Well the ages are directly related to spreading centres. As you move out from a mid-ocean ridge, the age of the oceanic crust gets older.
