Well now young lady I suppose it is something to do with us being the so called 'Nanny State' so I suggest you stop bellyaching and get yourself back to your homework or household chores or whatever this very instant. Go on then off you go, and no talking while you are about it. lol :-)) (bet you are glad I am joking aren't you?)

The British have always been more proper in everything they do. If we Americans were not so set in our ways we would not need Nanny 911 or Kitchen Nightmares or any other show to teach us what we should already know!

They don't.
But historically, ever since the early days, Americans were concerned with much more immediate things than manners, like fending off wild animals, the cold, disease, and trying to get enough to eat. This continued during the Westward Expansion. Meanwhile, back in England, maintaining the oppressive class system was the main concern, and manners and accents and clothing were what distinguished the privileged, bossing class from the begging-for-work class. So manners or what passes for manners were preserved and perverted and prized in the Old Country, and know-how and inginuity and the bottom line were prized in the New World. Time passed, and here we are. The Brits who once controlled two-thirds of the earth have now squandered their Empire, and have little left in this world other than the ability to intimidate anyone without a posh accent. But soon, we in America will be in the same boat, having sent all our jobs to China and our young men off to be killed and mutilated in order to make a handful of Cheneys richer than Croesus. But we won't be able to go around claiming to have better manners.

Because they are supposed to be more proper than we are. America's like the immature child of Great Britain.
