If you had asked me to pick a middle name for Savannah or a first name for Melissa, I definitely would not have put the two together. They have the same syllable structure and same ending sound, so that doesn't provide much a contrast.
However, the two names don't sound bad together... it's actually kind of musical... Savannah Melissa.
You have very good reasons for choosing both names. Choosing the first name you love and a middle name that's significant to you are very important. Your daughter's name will be much more meaningful than someone's whose middle name was just chosen because it had the right vowel sound or the right number of syllables. As she grows up, most people won't be saying her first and middle name together anyway. That will only happen when she is first born or when you are angry with her!

I think Melissa is a great middle name, especially for the reason you've chosen it. I totally agree with using memorial names for middle names. I couldn't imagine calling my child the name of a deceased loved one.
However, I don't care for Savannah at all. It's a very common stripper name, and it brings to mind Savannah, Georgia. It's not a place I would want to honor. Plus, it doesn't sound nice to me with Melissa. Since you really like it, I would hold off on using Savannah for this child and hold onto it for a second child. You could use Savannah Jane, Savannah Olivia, etc. for the second child.
Here's some more ideas for first names that sound nice with Melissa:
Anna Melissa
Naomi Melissa
Harper Melissa
Tegan Melissa
Georgia Melissa
Danielle Melissa
Katherine Melissa
Reagan Melissa
Daphne Melissa
Elizabeth Melissa
Lucille Melissa
Brianne Melissa
Evelyn Melissa
Caroline Melissa
Willow Melissa

First of all, I think it is really wonderful that you're choosing to remember your cousin this way! I'm in a very similar situation, and my husband and I also chose our loved-one's name for our daughter's middle name because, as you said, you're remembering your cousin, not attempting to fill her place. Very well thought out.
Unfortunately, I too do not feel that the names Savannah and Melissa go well together. The combination is difficult to say, and the two names are too much alike in structure and sound (both three-syllables and both ending in 'a'). A different first name, possibly one that is shorter and does not end in 'a,' would better compliment the middle name you've chosen, which seems of greatest importance to you (as it should be!). I think this deserves a little more research before you make a decision, although I know how hard that is...when you're set on a name, it's hard to let go. Good luck to you, whatever you decide!

Savannah Melissa doesnt really roll off the tongue. With a middle name of Melissa, the first name should be short, and not end with the "a" sound that Melissa ends with. Try something shorter like; Sophie, Sage, Sybill.

Savannah is a pretty name Melissa is a pretty name. Just not together. You should pick a shorter name to go with Melissa. Although I think Melissa would be a beautiful first name, and it would be much easier to choose a middle name for Melissa than vice-versa

It's too heavy. Both have 3 syllables and that makes it really hard to say. They also both end with the same "a" sound which makes it hard to say.
I don't like Savannah that much. Melissa is pretty, but you'll need a first name that doesn't end with the "a" sound.

I'm sorry, but many (myself included) find Savannah insubstantial, trendy, overused, lower-class and even risque (it's very common in the adult entertainment industry). None of those are criteria I would strive for when considering names for my own daughter, to be honest.
For what it's worth, even if I liked the name, I wouldn't use it in your situation, since you want to use Melissa as a middle name. I'd look for a first name not also ending in A, to best compliment Melissa and provide a more attractive name in full. Two three-syllable names both ending in A simply don't sound all that great together, frankly.

Personally I don't think that the two names blend together well as they are both long and end in an "a" sound, but I think it is wonderful that you want to name your daughter after your cousin, it is a lovely thing to do and your daughter will have a name that is meaningful and she can be proud of.
You obviously love the names you have chosen so I guess other suggestions won't be wanted.
All the best.

i admire the two names, yet i desire Savannah Rae as a results of fact those 2 names sound appropriate at the same time, and as the call Rose is in basic terms too worry-loose, it is advantageous to have in basic terms a splash an uncommon call.

It is a very cute name. My boss has a daughter with that name. I'm not feeling it with Melissa though.
This middle name is difficult.
How about:
Devon Melissa (kinda masculine though)
Janelle Melissa
Do what you like though! Savannah is great!
