Religious reasons the Puritans wanted a place where they were free to practice their religion with out fear from the the government. It should be noted that the religion they wanted to practice was considered more fundamentalist than what was being practiced from where they came

I hardly believe any of it was planned, and the main reason European colonists came to North America was to be sanctioned from religious prosecution by the European countries. This is as if saying the British sent colonists to North America knowing that they would later rebel against them.

Which colonists? There have been colonists starting with the Norsemen who came and settled Greenland, there have been French colonists, there have been Spanish colonists, there have been English colonists, there have been Russian colonists, there have been many, many different waves of colonization. North America, by the way, includes Mexico - it isn't just the US or the US and Canada. So ask your question again, but be a little more specific, please.

Considering there were many colonies, there were many different reasons: making money was one of them as people in England investing in shipping people who wanted land or opportunity in hopes of making money on their investment (see Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia mostly.)
Several were filled with people who felt oppressed in their native countries, in many cases because of their religious beliefs or other prejudice: see Massachusetts and Rhode Island. New York and Pennsylvania were built on business opportunity with a more liberal government attitude to attract people - see Penn's statements about founding Pennsylvania.
Baltimore and Maryland were business with less freedom emphasis in the promotion
