I went to this evening's game and I was pleasantly surprised at the pre-game Kane festivities.

Is Buffalo first class or what?

Prior to the game, Patrick Kane's father, and grandfather joined Brian Campbell's father for the opening face-off.

One really did get the impression that Buffalo had drafted Kane.

I've never seen another team honour an opposing player just because he was from that city.

Montreal never honoured Mario Lemieux, Alexandre Daigle, Vincent Lecavalier, or Marc-Andre Fleury etc who were born in Montreal.

Toronto did nothing for Rick Nash

Boston did nothing for Rick DiPietro

Calgary did dick-all for Chris Phillips

Erik Johnson never received this treatment from the Wild

CAAM
Left the game with about 5 minutes to go...9:30ish, crossed the border at 10ish, and then it was another 2hrs and 15min from Fort Erie to Toronto in a mix of snow, ice, and few lulls (especially around Hamilton)

Facsimille? Hmmmm....LITY, hold my calls...lol

Didn't get a chance to see the pre-game show. All I really cared about that game was Sharp and Toews loading up on points. I did expect the 'Hawks to take the game since the Sabres are worse than my Leafs, but hey...surprise, surprise. lol

I think it's a coin toss in terms of who will win. Ottawa has been the dominant team. Even in Game 4 when they were down 3-0, they came back and made a game out of it. They had the Sabres on their heels for the whole third period. However with that being said, the Sabres do have their backs against the wall, which relieves some pressure to perform (majority of people have written them off). I believe that this fact, and if Miller can up his game even more (they need it badly), then it evens things out. In the end, if the Sabres don't get a quick start, they are done. If Ottawa can get a 2 or 3 goal lead, it's over. Ottawa can shut teams down almost as good as New Jersey can, if not better. And even if the Sabres do get a quick start, they have to keep pressing. If they let up even just a little, the Sens will make them pay like they did in the 2nd of game 4. I think Ottawa closes the series out today. 4-3 or 5-3 on an empty net.

Oh yes, everyone here was very excited =) Even though we are one of the bigger cities in the state, we still have a pretty small town feel. So, because of that, we just get so excited when we produce something good ;) Although, come to think of it, I think Kane's reception was better than Kaleta's, and he was playing for us!

That is my favorite thing about Buffalo, when it comes to hockey and not, the people here are wonderfully gracious, friendly and welcoming! Being from Buffalo, the game couldn't have been better for us. Kane scored, but we won.

LITY - were you able to get out of town before the ice came?

Indeed, I think that was fantastically classy of them. There are some places in the States that are starting to produce more and more talented hockey players all the time. It's a great thing to witness, and I'm glad to see Buffalo celebrate one of its local products. Haha, but I bet the Sabres do wish they had Patrick Kane in their lineup...

Careful there, LITY. Your followers may nail you to a cross for your praise of the aforementioned organization residing within The Queen City. I'm sure your Pontius Pilate lurks amongst us.

That was a class move indeed. They also selected him as the third star of the game. Not totally throwing him a bone, he did have the Hawks only goal but he probably would not have been selected in another city on another night.

i think it was real nice of buffalo to do that. And keep in mind down the road when kane's contract is up there's always a possiblity he will be a sabre. The reason for that also is to honor a real good rookie.I wonder if it would have been done if he-kane-was average.

I was very happy with what the team did for Pat Kane and his family. I wasn't there, but I watched it on television. Also to Hawks for allowing an open skate to the public.

Sorry buddy, I have to go with "Or what" on this one.

Remember a few years back, there was a well respected veteran player named Don Audette who, after realizing the team needed him to make less so they could obtain / keep other top talent, refused to allow the team to give him a raise and stayed at the previous years salary. This "class" organization thanked him for his dedication and service with a trip outta town for his loyalty.

That kinda defines my view of this organization. Perhaps things have changed now that Regas is in prison and the team is in other hands.....but some impressions are hard to break.
