x+4y=6
x+3y=5

Subtract the lower equation from the upper to get y = 1; then x = 2.

5p+16q=5
p-3q=-1

Multiply the bottom equation by -5...

5p+16q=5
-5p+15q=15

...now add the two equations to get

31q = 20 or q = 20/31

300x-y=130
200x+y=120

Add the equations to get

500x = 250
x = 1/2
